DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Freddy Krueger, Chucky, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Pinhead, Jason, Ghostface. These are all household names, the youngest being Ghostface, debuting in 1996 in Scream. That was 20 years ago. Twenty Years without a new horror icon.

We plan to change that with Dweller.

Proof of Concept - Short Version

Dweller is a fresh and contemporary take on the slasher genre. It is in reference to the classics of yore, while at the same time pushing the genre, kicking and screaming, into the here and now. Recontextualizing the genre's tropes and cliches under the umbrella of a thriller in the vein of Silence of the Lambs or Zodiac.

Imagine if Clarice Starling's first case out of the FBI academy was investigating the events of Friday the 13th. Instead of going toe to toe with Hannibal Lecter, she's after an iconic slasher icon such as Jason Voorhees.

Theme is of upmost importance to me when considering what films I want to tackle and Dweller explores some really deep ones. The primary theme presented is that of Nature vs Nurture. Would the Dweller be different under any other circumstances? Would Claire? We don't outright answer these questions, however we present a number of scenarios that allow the audience to ponder these themes in some pretty profound ways.

We will take an indie sensibility and approach, while still delivering world class visuals and production values which will rival films whose budgets dwarf our own. To prove that, we filmed proof of concepts (embedded above and below) on a minuscule budget and on a very lean schedule.

We have assembled a top-notch team of film professionals who are very adept at delivering high-quality work on tight budgets and strict schedules, and whose passion for this film matches my own.

Proof of Concept - Long Version

We will take a grounded, visceral approach while filming; an approach which best represents the tone of the script.

While the Dweller himself is an instantly ICONIC character, so are our two leads in Paul and Claire Kingsley, father and daughter.

Paul Kingsley is a determined husband and father, whose obsession with finding the Gaines and the truth about his wife's disappearance has iced his heart and destroyed his faith in mankind. He internalizes his grief and emotional pain.

Claire is tough as nails and just as smart. A chip off the old block, she's followed her father's footsteps and has funneled her determination into a career in Criminal Investigation with the FBI. She has an uncanny knack for rooting out evidence and analyzing a crime scene. She sometimes worries that she may be following Paul's footsteps a little too closely.

Our supporting cast is filled with rich and diverse characters, each with their own conflicts, strife, and secrets.

I thank you for your time and look forward to collaborating. We are creating a new classic for the pantheon of horror heavyweights, and in my opinion Dweller will become a household name, perhaps replacing the boogeyman in childrens' nightmares.
